Heelys: How old people roll

1
When I was a kid, I was at the skating rink every Saturday night. I could skate forward, backward, in circles, couples skate, do that chain whip thingy. I was a roller skating princess.

But now... now I am old. And I look at chicks that do roller derby and man do I envy them. But like I said, I am old. If I were a dinosaur, I'd be this one:

Even still, my inner child calls for me and when I got a chance to review Heelys, I jumped on it. And I have to tell you, I am so glad I did. Now, I won't kid you. I didn't just slip them on and zoom off down the street like I was 10 years old again. It's been many, many years since I've been on anything with wheels that wasn't a car. I was nervous but excited to get back on some wheels! That's right my friends, they make Heelys for big kids too!

I chose the Heelys in the pink and black Wave style.
These are the original Heelys that allow you to easily transition from rolling to walking just by shifting the weight of your feet. What's even better is that the wheels are removable so that the shoes can be turned into street shoes for extended periods of walking. I was super impressed with the quality and construction of the shoes. They look to be very well put together and durable. They are light weight and best of all comfortable.

Like I said, I had a little difficulty getting the hang of the shoes on my own. And that is not through any design flaw in the Heelys - I'm just not very coordinated. I mean, I trip over my own shadow sometimes. I watched several of the teaching videos on the Heelys site. I knew what I needed to do, it was just a matter of convincing my body to do it!

It was suggested that I try the Heelys out while grocery shopping and using the cart to balance myself until I got the hang of it and that's exactly what I did!

I never felt uneasy on the Heelys - and believe me, I'm a big chicken. The wide footprint of the shoe really helped me feel more secure. I would definitely get these for Izzy when she is old enough, topped off with matching helmet, knee and elbow pads of course (I know, I was totally being a bad example in my video. I am also completely aware that I am dressed like a boy in my video. Whatever. It was laundry day.) Also, these were a great work out. I was sweating my butt off by the end. So its definitely a core building activity!

I hope y'all will check out Heelys. You can find them on Twitter Facebook and of course on the official Heelys website.

All of this skating around has me totally reminiscing about all those nights at the skating rink and the great music. So I declare FREEEEE SKAAAAAAAATE!
