Take it off | Week 69: Whiskey Bent and Hellbound

I'm a little red-faced. Apparently the Transition information I posted last week was outdated! Turns out that Transition is now only six weeks. That means I will be in maintenance for my birthday!

So this is what Transition actually looks like.

Thankfully no damage was done - not that an extra week of just another serving of veggies would have hurt anything. But I am just a TAD excited about introducing fruit this week.

Sadly, this does not count as fruit:
Sucks. I mean, it's MADE with fruit.

But I did get to start my week o' fruity delights with a slice of watermelon after running the Baltimore Women's Classic with my friend Amanda. Boy, let me tell you, this was my hardest race to date, and this person is the reason why.
That's right, my friend Ellen is the sole reason that I nearly barfed twice while running the BWC. ALLLLLL HER FAULT. Not only did she drag me through Annapolis on a Makers Mark whiskey bar crawl (and judging by that photo, I'm guessing I was roofied at some point), she had me out dancing until about 1am. Finally we went back to her apartment to get some rest. Sadly for us her landlord had not installed an air conditioning unit. Rather he mistook a dryer with a single tennis shoe in it as a cooling unit. All night long, clunk.clunk.clunk.clunk. But thanks to the roofies I still slept pretty well and praise Captain Morgan did not wake up with any facial tattoos.

Ellen - you are the Elaine Benes and Jerry Seinfeld to my running dreams. ;)

Seriously though, BWC was baaaad and it was totally my fault. I stayed out way too late the night before. But I had not seen Ellen in a year and I was throwing caution to the wind. And even though it was 90 degrees before 8am on the day of the race (at least it felt like it was), even though I wanted to admit defeat before I even got my timing chip tied to my shoe, and even though I could feel that Makers Mark coming back to haunt me as I cleared the second mile, I finished. I had to walk for about 30 seconds twice (or was it 3 times. ugh) but I wasn't quitting until I crossed the finish line. I made this mess of myself and I was committed to seeing this goal through. Boy, does that sound familiar or what? That's pretty much my weight loss story in a nut shell.

You know what really pushed me through though? Hearing Renee from Medifast yell my name from the sidelines halfway through the race and then again at the finish line. Renee has been one of the many people that encouraged me to keep up with the running. To let her know how much I appreciated the support, as I passed her to cross the finish I yelled to her "I still hate it!" To which she replied "Keep going anyway!" The amount of support I get from these folks never ceases to amaze me. And then I nearly kissed her when she later said to me "I almost missed you. I didn't even recognize you!" Flattery will get you everywhere, my dear. Especially if I was probably roofied the night before and a lil' hung over.

I finished the race in 34:12.1. I'm happy with that - because, hell, it should have been a whole lot worse. I told Amanda that I owe her another race. I felt bad that I slowed her down. Want to know what race she suggested to me this morning? The Charm City 5k Trail Run at Boordy Vineyards. My liver is crying right now.

But I am so glad I had my fun in Annapolis and tortured myself at the Baltimore Women's Classic. I finally got to meet another Medifast employee and Twitter pal, Dianne (who brought me some epic Medifast swag!). And  I got to spend some quality time with Amanda as she celebrated her run-iversary by finishing the BWC for the second year in a row. Last but not least, I came home with mystery bruises all over my arms and legs as a souvenir of my time spent with Ellen. Mystery bruises are always a sign of a good time had by all. If you don't come out of a weekend away from home without an injury then you are doing something wrong! Am I right?

So...how did I do in terms of weight loss this week? Well...heh...Monday morning was not great. duh. But things evened out by Tuesday morning - so we are going with that number! I am still at 144.5, which I am totally happy with. Because let's face it, I should be singing some serious scale blues right now. You'd think I'd be completely relieved to break even (after lots and lots of water on Monday). But there is this weird part of me that feels like I should have been punished with a gain or something. Isn't that ridiculous? I did all this bad stuff and got away with it. And that seems to be how it goes for me in this past year. I don't want it to be just luck. I want it to mean that I've learned how to right the ship. That I can have my fun but get back on track instead of spiraling out of control because I've 'gotten away with it' time and again.
As I inch my way closer to maintenance I worry that I will lose myself in these new freedoms. (Mind you, boozing it up is NOT one of those freedoms.) I worry that my 'luck' will run out and I will slide backwards. Hopefully if that ever happens though, I will just recall the time I nearly barfed my way through the BWC and finished the race anyway. I'll hark back to that time when I knew I had to finish what I started. I'll also recall how crappy I felt this past Sunday and use it as a lesson to quit while I am ahead.

Now if you don't mind, I have a bruise I need to ice. Can you pass the Advil and two medium sized pieces of fruit? :)
